Empowering parent and carer voices / Grymuso lleisiau rhieni a gofalwyr

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) explicitly recognises the central role played by parents and families in ensuring that children grow up healthy, happy and safe.

Parents are often the most important defenders of their children’s rights and have clearly told us ‘they want to have a voice and be heard.’

This webinar will promote the ‘Parents Connect Wales’ project, funded by Welsh Government and currently being undertaken by Children in Wales. The project is working towards developing a Wales-wide platform for gathering parents' views, that would lead to more meaningful participation in the form of co-production.  The webinar will also highlight the importance of parent participation and  empowerment.  It'll showcase some of the exciting work already taking place across Wales, including real life stories of the journey that parents have taken to ‘have a say’ and become more involved in promoting the rights of their children.

Speakers will include:

Fatiha Ali, Development Officer, Parents Connect Wales Project, Children in Wales. Fatiha will officially launch the Parents Connect Wales project and share the importance of parents' voices in support of children and young people. We will hear about the development of the project to date and the wider work planned across Wales.

Jen Brierley, Parenting Programmes Coordinator - Early Years and Family Support, Flintshire County Council.  Jen will share the journey that Flintshire has gone through as they have set up the Parent Champions scheme in response to a parent consultation in 2022, which highlighted the need for more creative ways of reaching parents.

Amy Price - Parent Network. The Parent Network run a range parent groups across Caerphilly County Borough, offering the opportunity to meet other parents, learn new skills and have their voice heard. Through video stories we will hear about the benefits this work is having for parents and their children and young people.

Jolene - a parent representative on the Bettws Early Learning Community Board, facilitated by Save the Children.  Jolene’s role is to ensure that the parent’s voice within the Bettws community is heard and given due regard. Jolene is a member of the Bettws 4 Voices group who explore key issues throughout Bettws for families and produce actions to address these. Jolene is also an active member of Newport Mind, providing peer support for parents whose children are experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance.

The webinar will be Chaired by Anna Westall, Policy Officer, Children in Wales.

Mae Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau'r Plentyn (CCUHP) yn cydnabod yn benodol rôl ganolog rhieni a theuluoedd wrth sicrhau bod plant yn tyfu i fyny yn iach, yn hapus ac yn ddiogel.

Rhieni yn aml yw amddiffynwyr pwysicaf hawliau eu plant ac maent wedi dweud yn glir wrthym 'maent am gael llais a chael eu clywed.'

Bydd y gweminar hon yn hyrwyddo'r prosiect 'Rhieni'n Cysylltu Cymru', a ariennir gan Lywodraeth Cymru ac sy'n cael ei gynnal ar hyn o bryd gan Plant yng Nghymru. Mae'r prosiect yn gweithio tuag at ddatblygu llwyfan ledled Cymru ar gyfer casglu barn rhieni, a fyddai'n arwain at gyfranogiad mwy ystyrlon ar ffurf cydgynhyrchu.

Bydd y weminar hefyd yn tynnu sylw at bwysigrwydd cyfranogiad a grymuso rhieni, ac yn arddangos peth o'r gwaith cyffrous sydd eisoes yn digwydd ledled Cymru; gan gynnwys straeon bywyd go iawn am y daith y mae rhieni wedi'i chymryd i 'leisio'u barn' a chymryd mwy o ran yn hyrwyddo hawliau eu plant.

Amy Price, Rhwydwaith Rhieni.  Mae'r Rhwydwaith Rhieni yn cynnal ystod o grwpiau rhieni ar draws Bwrdeistref Sirol Caerffili, gan gynnig cyfle i gwrdd â rhieni eraill, dysgu sgiliau newydd a lleisio eu barn. Trwy straeon fideo byddwn yn clywed am y manteision y mae'r gwaith hwn yn ei gael i rieni a'u plant a'u pobl ifanc.

Jolene - rhiant gynrychiolydd ar Fwrdd Cymuned Dysgu Cynnar Betws, wedi'i hwyluso gan Achub y Plant.  Rôl Jolene yw sicrhau bod llais y rhiant o fewn cymuned Betws yn cael ei glywed a'i ystyried yn briodol. Mae Jolene yn aelod o grŵp Bettws 4 Voices sy'n archwilio materion allweddol ar draws Betws i deuluoedd ac yn cynhyrchu camau i fynd i'r afael â'r rhain.
